Thank You!
LCC’s work for a healthy, accessible lake depends upon the active involvement of many dedicated volunteers who lend heads, hands, and heart in a myriad of ways. As we close out 2011the LCC Board of Directors and staff extend our thanks to everyone who has supported our efforts in the field, on the water and out in the community. You are so instrumental to protecting and improving Lake Champlain’s health.
In the spring, LCC moved to new quarters in Burlington’s south end. We couldn’t have undertaken the move to better space, closer to the lake without the terrific help of landlord Dave Farrington and the Farrington Family. Our deep thanks to Dave Farrington, Bren Alvarez and the wonderful building, painting and moving team from BrickBox Company – Eric, Derrick, Gene, Scott, and longtime LCC member and volunteer Pete Rosenfeld.
Thanks also to Steven Kellogg and Peter Paine for their generous donations and to Isabel Burnham, Tyler Austin Dooley, Larry Ebere, Jen Francoeur, Richard Moss, Alex Rose, Ben Rose, Micah Rose, Phyllis Rose, Jim Schweithelm, Sheehy, Furlong and Behm, Jeanne Stark, Mary Van Vleck, and Lisa Ward for their help with packing, painting, and the move.
Hats off to dedicated Paddlers’ Trail Stewards and volunteers who faithfully check Trail sites, lead trips, and help us expand the Trail system: Tom and Jeanette Berry, Megan and Greg Epler Wood, The Ford Family – Russ, Brook, Kent and Sterling, Rob and Sherry Libby, Ruth Miller, Nancy Olsen, Jim Schweithelm, and Wanda and Michael Spatzer. We are indebted to Andy Dregallo, Dawn Hazelett, Jean Richardson, Berney and John Skutel, and Selby and Maureen Turner for generously sharing their shoreline with paddlers.
The historic spring flooding and Tropical Storm Irene took a toll on the Trail system. We would not have been able to open for the season without the hard work of municipal and state recreation and transportation staff and the many volunteers who assisted with clean up. Thanks to our Trail partners at New York Department of Environmental Conservation, New York Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, Vermont Forests, Parks and Recreation, and the Towns of Essex, Willsboro, in New York and Burlington, Colchester, Shelburne in Vermont.
Our award-winning blue green algae monitoring wouldn’t be possible without the involvement and support from the Lake Champlain Basin Program, Dr. Mary Watzin and Susan Fuller at the University of Vermont Rubenstein School of Natural Resources, the Vermont Department of Health, and the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation along with Sally and Jim Brabham, Catherine Brooks, Amy Calkins, Al Carpenter, Deb Diemand, Gerry Duprey, Lawrence Gillet, Dave Greenough, Stephanie Kurchberg, Bill Magnus, Bob Martell, Jon McBride, Gary Molinski, Bob Murphy and his crew at the Willsboro Department of Public Works, Gerry O’Conner, Martha Perry, Kaylee Polander, Larry and Jeanine Pratt, Mike Roach, Mary Simmers, Mary Van Vleck, Doug Ward, and Eric Wolinsky.
Thanks also to our office volunteers who have assisted with mailings, computer work and a host of administrative tasks to keep the mail flowing and our systems humming: Traci Arbo, Isabel Burnham, Ann Churchill, Dan Jacobs, Sarah Keeley, Vicky Menard, Richard Moss, Ciara Putnam, Alex and Phyllis Rose, and Kenny Vasallo.
