Native Aquatic Plants Nature Ramble with the Lake Champlain Committee and South Hero Land Trust - 7/2/2024
- Tuesday 7/2/2024
- 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM
- Round Pond State Park (map)
Join the LCC's Education and Outreach Associate Eileen Fitzgerald and South Hero Land Trust's Programs Director Guy Maguire for a nature ramble focused on an underappreciated group of flora: native aquatic plants. Aquatic plants provide important habitat for fish and wildlife and are integral to lake ecology but are too often viewed as weeds. This event is a fun, hands-on opportunity to get to know the native aquatic plant species a bit better.
Learn the three different types of aquatic vegetation, see the world’s smallest known flowering plant, and find out about the cultural connections to aquatic vegetation during our early evening stroll. We will meet at the Round Pond State Park trailhead (57 East Shore Road, South Hero, VT 05486) at 5:30 PM and walk along the trail to the lake. Once there, we’ll explore some of the emergent plants along the shore and collect some species from the depths. We’ll be back to the trailhead by 7:00 PM. Please bring drinking water, trail snacks, insect repellent, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet or dirty.
Capacity for this event is 20—RSVP below to reserve your spot!
